What’s on your list of activities this summer?
If you’re looking to try something new or want to go beyond wading in the backyard kiddie pool, check out five great ways to keep you active this season:
Hitting the gym: Going to the gym doesn't have to be about staring at the wall while doing time on the Stairmaster. Plus, with Vancouver's unpredictable summer weather, going to the gym means your workout won't ever be rained out.
Beach volleyball at Kits Beach: Hang out with the beautiful people and try your hands at beach volleyball. Because you’re running, jumping and spiking in the sand, you’re getting an awesome workout, and having fun in the sun at the same time. When you get too hot you can always enjoy some great ocean swimming.
Bike riding on the Stanley Park Seawall: Whether you have your own wheels or need to rent some from one of the bike shops downtown, and enjoy gorgeous views of the waterfront, mountains, and lush forests. You’ll be so busy taking in your surroundings, you won’t even notice that you’re getting a workout. If you go all the way around, you’re looking at 10 km, but you can stop anytime (especially because there are a number of places to buy tempting treats along the way).
Hiking the Grouse Grind: While the Grouse Grind is a steep hike that takes you more than 850 metres in less than 3 km, the thick forest provides some shade on the way up. The view from vantage points all the way up is amazing, and you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment when you reach the top, where you can eat, drink, and explore the various attractions on the mountain.
Kayaking in False Creek: It’s the most popular spot for kayakers to float along, relishing the view of the Vancouver Harbour. You can marvel at the beautiful architecture as you sail past the boats in the marina, the Plaza of Nations and the Granville Island Market.
