Top 5 Day Trips - The Sunshine Coast

Apr 02, 2008

Truly one of the best things about British Columbia is its extensive ferry system, with dozens of routes running along the inside coast (between Vancouver Island and landlocked British Columbia). From Vancouver, there are two major ferry terminals, both under an hour's drive outside Vancouver. From there, you can go to a multitude of destinations – Vancouver Islands, any of the Gulf Islands, or further up the inner coast. But for a day trip, nothing is quite so lovely as a trip to the Sunshine Coast. Depart from the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal in West Vancouver, walk or drive on board and enjoy a 40-minute ride of spectacular scenery. On a clear day, a ferry ride spend on the top deck bathing in the sun is worth the trip alone. One you arrive at Langdale Ferry Terminal, explore the townships of Gibsons and Seschelt, each with their own seaside charm. There are plenty of hikes to be had, small mom and pop shops to explore and gorgeous scenery to take in. Check out BC Ferries' website for more info on ferry routes and schedules. Bear in mind that during busy summer months, especially on holiday weekends, it's wise to make a reservation if you plan to bring your car on board.
