Things to Do: Capilano Suspension Bridge

Apr 10, 2008

The famous Capilano Suspension Bridge crosses 230 feet above the beautiful Capilano River to the serenity of West Coast rainforest trails. Built in 1889, the 450-foot long bridge was originally constructed of hemp rope and cedar planks, but was rebuilt with wire cable in 1903. In 1956, it was reinforced with 11.3 tonnes of concrete on either side.

Admission to the bridge includes access to gardens, a historic storytelling house, lectures and demonstrations on First Nations art and culture, and, best of all Treetops Adventure, the park's newest attraction.  A series of bridges and platforms set high in the forest canopy, Treetops offers visitors a better understanding of the delicate balance of life and was designed by engineers, arborists and architects to successfully balance education and environment.

The park is open every day except Christmas, except in cases of extreme weather. For more information, visit www.capbridge.com.
