Sure we'd all like to take our old, rickety printer to the countryside and give it a good kicking, a la Office Space, but in our hearts we know the responsible thing to do with obsolete technology is to recycle it. Indeed, so-called “e-waste” is a growing concern for the planet, as landfills are overflowing with outdated computers and gadgets that leak hazardous chemicals, including lead, mercury, cadmium, and toxic plastics into our environment.
This Friday, June 11, Vancouver's non-profit Electronic Recycling Association is hosting an electronics recycling and donation round-up for all businesses and residents of Vancouver & Lower Mainland. The event will take place in front of the water fountain at the entrance of the Vancouver Art Gallery. ERA Staff and volunteers will be accepting donations between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, with all those who donate equipment entered for a draw to win a variety of prizes and refurbished computer equipment.
The
Electronic Recycling Associations works with the community to reduce
excess waste, fixing and donating computers and other electronic
equipment to local charities, seniors' homes, children's societies
and other community-based organizations.
