West Point Grey (1)

Named after a close friend of Captain George Vancouver, Captain George Grey, this upscale neighbourhood offers waterfront living in gorgeous, well-kept houses. Dunbar-Southlands (2)

These are two decidedly different areas. Dunbar is a wonderful collection of single- family houses, greenspaces and tree-lined streets. It is classified as the area south of 16th and north of Southwest Marine Drive between McKenzie Drive and the University Endowment Lands. Southlands is a throwback to an early era, with sprawling farmland and large, grand houses. It’s the kind of place where horses outnumber people and neighbours are more like family.

“Kits” is one of the city’s most popular neighbourhoods, attracting a young, active population with its beaches and proximity to downtown and the university. Arbutus Ridge (4)

Few people that live the in Arbutus Ridge area even know that’s what it is called. Most refer to it by the names of adjacent districts like Kerrisdale or Dunbar. But the area framed by West Boulevard and Mackenzie St., and 16th and 41st avenues is officially called Arbutus Ridge. You’ll primarily find upscale, single-family houses with a nice mix of convenient commercial areas mixed in.

The first thing most Vancouverites think when they hear “Oakridge” is…shopping! But this quiet neighbourhood is much more than just the location of one of the city’s most popular malls. Its formal boundaries are 41st and 57th Avenues on the north and south, with Oak and Cambie Streets acting as the east/west edges. The Marpole neighbourhood is one of the oldest in Vancouver. The area is bordered by Angus Drive on the west and Ontario Street on the east. Downtown Eastside (16)

Rich in history, architecture and diversity, the Downtown Eastside is also one of the poorest neighbourhoods in the country. There is no denying that this area struggles with crime, homelessness and substance abuse but its identity is vital to Vancouver as a whole. The Downtown Eastside is bound by Burrard Inlet to the north, Clark Drive to the east, Cambie Street to the west and Hastings Street south. The gentrification of this area has been a constant discussion within the city and slow progress is being made to revitalize this once-prosperous neighbourhood. Recent revitalization has shown an influx of new housing opportunities including condominium developments that are popular among new home owners -- new restaurants and nightspots are popping up due to the new interest in the area.

Strathcona (17)

One of the oldest neighbourhoods in the city, Strathcona has charm and diversity unmatched in Vancouver. The city’s Chinatown is found here as well as several other cultural community centres, making for a delightful mix of history and ethnicity. Strathcona stretches from Hastings Street on the north end to Great Northern Way to the south: west to east boundaries are Main Street to Clark Drive. Today, this area is being revitalized with many of the heritage homes going through major gentrification. This is one of Vancouver’s up and coming neighbourhoods.

Grandview-Woodland (18)

Diverse is the best way to describe this Vancouver neighbourhood. Home to one of the city’s cultural heartbeats, Commercial Drive, Grandview-Woodland is charismatic, colourful and cool. The area stretches from Broadway to Burrard Inlet and from Clark Drive to Nanaimo Street. Latin and Italian influences are strong here and “The Drive” as it is often called is lined with funky cafes, unique hangouts and great restaurants.
